Have You Tried the Chinese Conception Chart?

If you’re not of Chinese or Asian descent, you’ve probably never heard of the Chinese conception chart. Wondering what it is?

It’s a traditional method of gender prediction! The Chinese conception chart helps expectant parents predict the sex of their unborn child.

What is a Chinese conception chart?

Touching on a tad of history here, according to the website, Chinese Gender Chart, the original Chinese birth calendar originated from Qing Dynasty (1644- 1911AD). The chart was found in a tomb of an emperor, and the original copy can now be found in the Institute of Science in Beijing. Due to its high accuracy, it is getting attention from all over the world!

Be careful when searching the internet for Chinese conception charts because there are many different versions available.  The big giveaway that the details are not from the original Chinese calendar is the gender results will be completely different than the Chinese conception charts results.

How does the Chinese birth calendar work during pregnancy?

There are two ways that you can conduct the test while you’re pregnant. One is a Chinese gender prediction calculator, and the other is a Chinese baby gender chart. Both work by calculating the mother-to-be’s Chinese lunar age and Chinese lunar month. The dates need to be converted from Western dates (actual dates) to Chinese dates for the calculator and chart to work.

What’s the difference between each test?

The Chinese gender prediction calculator is a calculator that is set up ready to go.  All you need to do is enter specific details such as your conception date and birthdate, and it will predict the baby’s gender for you. It’s that easy!

The Chinese baby gender chart works by you calculating your Chinese age and month of conception using a particular formula and then referring to the Chinese baby gender chart to provide you the result.

After testing out both, I found the calculator to be much easier and recommend trying this method. However, if you are open to trying both methods, keep reading as I go into more details about each test.

How to use the Chinese age and gender prediction calculator

My recommended Chinese gender prediction calculator can be found here. At the top of this linked page is the calculator. All you need to do is select your date of conception (the first day of your last period) and your date of birth.  Click the ‘predicts baby genders’ button, and your results will display.

For example, if I entered:

The conception date: 22 August 2016

My birth date: 1 May 1981

The results for my lunar conception month is: July

My lunar age at the time is: 36

The prediction of gender results is…a girl!

How to use the Chinese gender calendar

To successfully use the Chinese gender calendar you need to:

Step one

Work out the mother’s lunar age for when the baby was conceived. This is usually 1 to 2 years older than your actual age. The first step is to figure out your Chinese lunar birth year by using the calculator. Once you have that information, you subtract your Chinese lunar birth year from the lunar year you conceived (actual year conceived), then add another 1 year onto that. This will give you your Chinese lunar age.

I worked it out using a birth date of 1 May 1981 which provided me with the Chinese lunar birth year of 27 March 1981.

1981(Lunar birth year)-2016 (conceived year)+1 = 34 (Chinese Lunar Age)

Step two

Now you need to work out the lunar month of conception. Using the same calculator tool, enter in your conception date (the first day of your last period) click on search, and this will give you your lunar month.

I entered in the conception date of  22 August 2016, and the result was 20 July 2016.

Step three

You have now calculated your Chinese age and month of conception.  It is time to consult the chart.  You need to find your ‘Lunar age of mother’ down the left-hand side and then the ‘lunar month of conception’ along the top of the chart.

I searched my example Chinese Lunar Age of 34 and Month of July = Girl

How does the Chinese calendar work for pregnancy?

Thinking about using the calendar to predict the baby’s gender first before trying to conceive? Well, now you can by visiting Your Chinese Astrology. There you will find a baby gender selection calendar. You just need to enter your date of birth, the year you plan to get pregnant, and if you would prefer a boy or girl. Click on the ‘get best dates’ button and a full year’s calendar will appear with all your gender preferences highlighted.

What is the Chinese gender predictor’s accuracy?

Even though the Chinese conception chart on many occasions appears to be correct, there is no scientific evidence that it is accurate and therefore the results should not be entirely relied upon.

Give it a go!

I gave the Chinese Conception Chart a try to see how accurate it was for me.  I have three boys, and the results came back that my first and second child are boys – correct!  However, it stated my third was a girl – wrong. So 2 out 3 isn’t too bad in my books!

We would love to know if you gave the Chinese conception chart a go. Let us know in the comments how accurate it was for you!
