Postnatal depression – Early signs and getting support

Postnatal depression is really important, effecting 1 in 10 women This condition is common, you're not on your own and nothing terrible will happen like having for example your baby taken away

Some of the early signs of depression include feeling low in mood, sometimes feeling anxious rather than feeling low, lacking in energy, not being able to sleep for example Women can also feel suicidal or even have thoughts of harming the baby If you are experiencing any of these, it's really important to talk to either your midwife, your health visitor or a GP who can then forward you to a psychiatrist if they think that's necessary Depression is very very treatable either through things like talking therapies or with medication
